While Yanni was in Oman, he spent some quality time with the visually challenged students of Omar bin Khattab Institue for the Blind.
"Going to the school to meet the visually impaired was special. I thought I was inspiring them. I was thinking what I could possibly say to inspire them. Instead of me inspiring them, I felt they inspired me. They showed me how much courage they have, and how hard these teachers are working for these children. They made me feel like I don't have any problems in life. It gave me uplift. They made me feel so great." -Yanni
** OCTOBER 20, 2011 - Yanni Aids Flood Relief Efforts **
Yanni has been so moved by the hardship facing the Thai people due to massive floods that he has taken it upon himself to assist with relief efforts. Yanni informed BEC-Tero Entertainment Managing Director, Mr. Brian L. Marcar that he wanted to give something back to the people of Thailand before continuing with his tour to Singapore. This afternoon, Mr. Marcar took Yanni to visit the Bangkok governor, M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra. Together with volunteers, they helped fill sandbags at Bangkok’s Flood Relief Center, Rittiyawannalai School 2, Sai Mai district.
Yanni said, “After Brian told me about the amount of suffering from the flooding, I couldn’t stand still. I discussed with him ways that I could help the country I love and the people, who are like my friends, like my family members. The reception at last night’s concert was amazing, and I wanted to try to give something back to the Thai people. Today is a great opportunity to do something. I have been touched by the great unity and generosity of the Thai people during this difficult period. I hope that the pain, both physical and mental, will fade away as soon as possible, and I would like to urge the people of Thailand to stay strong.”
** OCTOBER 09, 2011 - YANNI RECEIVE A BABY GIANT PANDA **
Yanni Adopts a Baby Girl Panda!
This Sunday, October 9th, the Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Base in Chengdu, China invited Yanni to become the adopted father and give the name for a recently born (2 months!!) baby Panda. Adopting a Panda is an honor that is reserved almost exclusively for countries respected by China and Yanni is the first western artist to ever be honored with this gift.
“This is a very heartfelt honor and is with a great sense of responsibility to the people of China and the Panda that I accept this marvelous gift," said Yanni to an audience of dozens of media and supporters of the Panda Center in Chengdu.
The adoption ceremony was followed with Yanni visiting the Panda birthing area where he visited his new baby daughter Panda, Santorini.
“After careful consideration, I have chosen the name of Santorini for this baby Panda. The name Santorini is derived from the Greek word for “Peace," which is Irini.
Santorini is also the name of the most beautiful island in my home country of Greece. It seems fitting that my adopted Panda daughter would be called “beautiful peace."
The beautiful Panda of Peace, Santorini, has two famous parents. After today’s adoption ceremony in Chengdu, China she will claim Yanni as her adopted father. Additionally, her birth mother, Mao Mao is a female Panda celebrity. Mao Mao was the Panda chosen as the mascot for China during the 2008 Olympics.
“The Chengdu Panda base has warmly invited global musician, Yanni, to adopt one of our newborn baby Giant Pandas. The invitation to adopt this baby Panda was inspired by Yanni’s music and our feeling that the essence of his music is harmonious with the nature of the Panda. The baby Panda was born here at the Chengdu Panda Base 2 months ago and is the offspring of famous China Olypmic mascot Panda, Mao Mao.” -Mr. Liu Jianxiong, Director General, Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation
Santorini is also the title of one of Yanni’s most famous compositions. The song is included in the teaching and textbooks for all primary school students throughout China and the song has been used for every Olympic Games since Yanni wrote the song in 1995.

**JULY 14, 2011 - YANNI HAITI 1ST ANNIVERSARY**
On July 14, 2010 Yanni Haiti Fan's Club was founded, exactly one year ago, on Yanni Community. I am pleased to see that we were able to present a stable group. We have come a long way since we first started. We had some truly gratifying experiences since the beginning. We have met a lot of Yanni-lovers, really brilliant artists, smart, funny, talented.....a lot of different types of people.
It's also Yanni Haiti website anniversary, launched 2 months ago on May 14. We hope that our website will continue to be a source of information for you. Thank you for visiting, and we hope that you will come back and visit us again soon.
Through the next year, Yanni Haiti hope to continue growing and increasing people's on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Yanni Community. We hope that you can continue letting your friends, family and anyone else who may be interested know, about us either by word of mouth, or direct them to our Website, Facebook group, Twitter and YouTube's Channel. We have got lots of feedback about our group and our new site, and have taken suggestions and ideas. We are still currently making changes to the site itself, and will be adding a lot more things in the near future.
